Obituary for Lula Hogsed Johnson

Lula Maxine Hogsed Morgan Johnson

Lula Maxine Hogsed Morgan Johnson passed away on April 7, 2014 at
Transylvania Regional Hospital after a brief illness. She was 80 years old.
She was preceded in death by her parents Carman and Leslie McGaha Hogsed,
her two brothers Harold (Tiny) and Jeff Hogsed, her four sisters Cornelia (Nelly)
Gravely, Jessie Lance, Sallie Hogsed, and Jacksie Gravley, her two husbands
George James Johnson of Tennessee, and Gentry Paul Morgan Sr., her son Gentry
Paul Morgan Jr. and her great-grandson Shelby Lee Newton. Many other family
members were waiting for her arrival from this world.
She leaves behind her only surviving sister out of eight children Mary Elizabeth
Bailey and her children: Sharon Deborah Morgan Newton of Hendersonville,
Gayle Maxine Morgan Garvitte, Leslie Ardella Morgan Douglas of Travelers Rest
and Bessie Lynn Johnson Smith. Eight grandchildren that love her very much:
Shonna and Laura Newton, Jessie and Chrystal Garvitte, Misty and Matthew
Douglas with Mandisa and Ayla Wynn. Lula has eleven great grand-children and
one great-great-grandson that she got to hold and play with on Friday April 4th,
he was four days old.
Lula accomplished many things in her short life. She, along with the other
members of the community, worked hard to get the See Off Community Center
built and to get the recognition that it deserved. She was instrumental in getting
telephone services, mail services to the homes, electricity, getting the roads
paved, a bookmobile for the children and a playground that many children have
enjoyed. She also held the title of President for the Club for several years. She was
awarded the "Western North Carolina Community Leadership Award" in
December of 1976 and the "Woman of the Year" award.
She loved all of her family and neighbors and did what she could to help them. In
return, her family loved her. Not just her children but her nieces, nephews, etc.
thought there was no one else like 'Aunt Lula'. There was hardly a day that went
by that she didn't receive several visits and phone calls from her 'family'. All were
her family. Lula Johnson will sorely be missed by all who were lucky enough to
have had the opportunity to have known this very special lady.
Friends and family visitation will be held at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home this
Saturday April 12, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00. Graveside rites will be held at 2 PM Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Dunn's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery on See Off Mountain where Lula will be laid to rest beside her first husband, Gentry. Reverend David Tucker will officiate.
