GEORGE WILLIAM GREENWOOD


George William Greenwood, age 80, passed away at his home on August 20, 2014. His family and friends were by his side when he went to be with the Lord. He was born on October 19, 1933, in Zirconia, North Carolina.

He was raised in Brevard North Carolina, and attended Brevard High School. He moved to Gastonia, NC, in 1956 and worked at Pharr Yarns and Turbo Machine Company as a Supervisor. He returned to Brevard, NC, in 1978 and worked at Olin and Ecusta as a Millwright in the Maintenance Department until his retirement in February, 1996. He was a member of the Living Hope Church of God. He loved working on his farm and with his cattle but most of all he loved reading his Bible and spending time with his family and friends. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War from May, 1953, until April, 1955, and in the U. S. Army Reserves until May, 1962. He was a charter member of Living Hope Church of God, Brevard, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Zudie Maybin Greenwood, and brother, Fraylow Greenwood.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Willa Beth Carter Greenwood, beloved daughters, Angela Greenwood Elliott of Pisgah Forest, NC, and Sandra Greenwood Crowe and husband, Robert Crowe of Rosman, NC; treasured granddaughters, Katrina Lashea Smith and husband, David Smith of Brevard, NC, and Crystal Elliott Galloway and husband, Chase Galloway, of Pisgah Forest, NC, and Robin Dale Crowe of Rosman, NC.; cherished Great-Grandson, Isaiah Stephen Smith of Brevard, NC. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Patterson and Thelma Martin of Lowell, NC, and brother, Steve Greenwood and wife, Marie Greenwood, of Clover, SC. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, in-laws and a host of family and friends that he loved dearly and whom were blessed to know him.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Moody-Connolly Funeral Funeral Home, Brevard, NC. Services will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Don Johnson, Rev. Chester Chappell and Rev. Paul Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest, NC.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Living Hope Church of God Building Fund, 193 Hillside Heights, Brevard, NC 28712.
