Obituary for Robert Gordon Heseltine Jr.

Robert Gordon Heseltine, Jr. (Bob) 75, of Pisgah Forest, NC passed away on August 27, 2014 after a brief illness. He is predeceased by his parents Robert Gordon Heseltine and Marcella Alma Heseltine. He is survived by his wife Gail of Pisgah Forest, NC; son Scott and wife Connie of Pisgah Forest, NC; daughter Debra Lanzone and husband Steve, two grandchildren Leonard Robert and Abby of Rockaway, NJ; sister Marcia Bargmann and husband Walter of Emerson, NJ; brother Donald and wife Sally of Falcon, CO; several nieces and nephews, and other extended family.
Bob was born on June 10, 1939 in New York, NY. He grew up in Westwood, NJ and completed high school at Darrow School in Lebanon, NY. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY before joining the Navy where, during active duty he was assigned to the Destroyer Escort, USS Kretchmer. He was a fire control officer as well as a sea detail helmsman.
After marrying Gail in 1965, they moved to Piscataway, NJ, where they raised their children and resided for 35 yrs. Bob was active in the Piscataway Jaycees and was instrumental in many community projects including the construction of the Piscataway Amphitheater and the annual 4th of July Jaycee Fair.
He was employed by Davidson Brothers, Inc. for 18 years, simultaneously earning his BA in Accounting from Rutgers University in 1984. In 2002, he retired as Financial Controller of the company. He and Gail moved to Pisgah Forest, NC. Where he was a dedicated member of his church and loved singing in multiple choirs, playing hand bells and serving on the board of trustees as well as the finance and grounds committees.
Bob was passionate about volunteering his time and expertise to his homeowners association. He was also a founding member and Treasurer of T.A.A.G., a non-profit animal rescue group located in Brevard, NC. His love for animals ensured that there was always at least one rescued Greyhound in his home.
The memorial service will be held at 3 PM Sunday, August 31, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church of Brevard with a reception following the service in the church fellowship hall.
