Obituary for Raymond Glenn Hoxit

Raymond Glenn "Pappy" Hoxit went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 29, 2014.

He is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and a son, Ronnie Hoxit.

He was born in Jackson County on April 18, 1926 to Gene and Bonnie Hoxit. He spent several years there working timber with his father. At the age of seventeen he was drafted into the United States Navy, where he served faithfully aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Guadalcanal, during the latter half of WWII. After his naval service he resided in Transylvania County where he was employed by the Olin Corporation. He retired after thirty-eight years of service.

"Pappy" enjoyed the outdoors, especially taking long walks through his beloved mountains. Greatly loved, he will be remembered as a "Mountain Man", full of kindness, honesty, integrity, and dedication to hard work. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.


He is survived by his wife, Ella Mae, with whom he spent sixty-eight years. Also remaining are a son and daughter-in-law, David and Linda Hoxit of Lake Toxaway, his sister, Louise Stepp and husband, Bobby, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service was held.
