Mary Lee Sumerel Ricker, 85, of Brevard, NC, died on Saturday Nov 7, 2015 at a health care facility after suffering a stroke earlier in the day. She was surrounded by family at her passing. She was a native of Hot Springs, NC and then lived in Brevard, NC for over 60 years. She was co-owner of Brevard Hardware and Carpet Shop and a founding member of the Brevard Wesleyan Church where she was faithfully active for 65 years.
Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Reeves Ricker of Brevard, NC, a daughter and son in-law, Janice and Ed Garbade of Folly Beach, SC and two granddaughters and grandson in-laws, Mary and J. Smith and Chelsea and Dave Leonard, all of Brevard, NC. Preceding her in death are her parents: Jeanette and Elmo Sumerel of Hot Springs; both of her brothers, Charles and Elmo Sumerel and her son, Michael Ricker.
Mrs. Ricker’s life was full of faith, family and service to others. The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday Nov 11, 2015 from Noon to 1pm at the Brevard Wesleyan Church. Immediately following, a memorial service celebrating her life will be held from 1-2pm.
