Obituary for Loree Anders Williams (Anders)

Loree Anders Williams (Anders)
LOREE ANDERS WILLIAMS, aged 98, died on Sunday, October 23, 2016.
Born March 8, 1918 in Jacksonville, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Marcus and Helen King Anders. She was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Herbert, in 1984; three sisters, Lucille Gray, Pearl Gougon and Jean Freeman; two brothers Frances Anders and Calvin Anders, Jr.; and son-in-law, Arnold Colker.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Doris Colker of Brevard and Sharon (Carl) Gillespie of Mt. Juliet, TN; grandsons Jeffrey (Pam) Colker of Duluth, GA and Bryan Gillespie of Knightdale, NC; 10 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter, many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and her best friend of 60+ years, Margurette Summey.
Though she was in declining health for the last several years, her sweet smile could still brighten the world around her. Loree was admired for her sense of humor, love of laughter and sparking blue eyes. She was always happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. Accomplished at knitting and crocheting, her handmade gifts are cherished by her family and friends. For many years, she knitted and crocheted blankets and hats for Project Linus. A great cook, her kitchen was the gathering place for her family, friends, neighbors, and the friends of her daughters. An avid game player, even in her advanced years, she was still the “family champion” in many games. While she was physically able, she loved working in her gardens. During her declining years she retained her love for beautiful flowers and enjoyed being able to sit in her sunroom or on her deck and look at her flower beds and flowers boxes which were always a bright spot of the neighborhood.
She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Brevard and enjoyed being a member of the Mary Class and served as its president for several years. She retired from Olin Corporation (Ecusta) in 1980. For many years, she was a regular volunteer at KOALA Adult Day Care Center and more recently she often accompanied her daughter, Doris, in the delivery of Meals on Wheels.
Loree had an avid interest in seeing new places and travel. She often spoke of memories of trips to Hawaii; the World Trade Center prior to the 9/11 disaster, Civil War battleground parks and Caribbean cruises.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff and friends at CarePartners Adult Day Care for their care and many kindnesses for the past months.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel of Moody-Connolly Funeral Home, 181 South Caldwell Street, Brevard, NC with burial immediately afterward at the Blue Ridge Garden of Memory, Hendersonville Highway, Pisgah Forest, NC. Visitation & reception will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral.
