Obituary for Arnold Lee Monteith

Arnold Lee  Monteith
Pisgah Forest – Arnold Lee Monteith, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23, 2016.

He was born on November 16, 1924 to the late Fred and Mamie Monteith in Bushnell, NC. He was a proud resident of Transylvania County since 1939.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings; Vivian Gillespie, Bernice, Doris and A. J. Monteith; his first wife, Irma Rahn Monteith and one daughter, Susan Maggard.

His life was one of service to God, his country and his family. He was a Navy veteran of WWII where he received 7 campaign ribbons. He was a loyal employee of Duke Power for more than 37 years, retiring in 1986. He gave of himself to many charities including his church, Grace Baptist of which he was a charter member and the Sharing House.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 43 years, Betty Holden Monteith; one son, Dr. Leonard K. Monteith and wife Nancy of Atlanta, GA; three daughters, Sylvia M. Ledford of Greensboro, NC, Missy McCall of Sunset Beach, NC and Sandy McCall Lincoln and husband Ashby of Duluth, GA; son in law, Marlyn Maggard of Pisgah Forest. He had nine grandchildren; Travis, Angie, Faera, Jeffrey, Katie, Corey, Zach, Brittany and Ryan and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters; Joyce Whitmire and June Whitmire and husband Marshall and one brother; Charles Monteith all of Brevard.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 2pm, Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Grace Baptist Church, 10 W. Holden Road, Brevard, NC with Military honors provided by the Transylvania County Honor Guard and the U. S. Navy . The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church or the Sharing House, 164 Duckworth Ave., Brevard, NC 28172.
