Obituary for Burton "Bud" Bass

Burton "Bud"  Bass
Burton “Bud” Bass, 85, of Brevard passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at his residence.

He was born in Waukee, Iowa on April 16, 1932 to the late Bert and Agnes Stump Bass. Mr. Bass was preceded in death by the love of his life, Darlene Bass on June 9, 2017; son, William Burton “Buddy” Bass; and a sister, Gretchen Suddarth.

Mr. Bass proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy from 1951 – 1955 aboard the ship Horace A. Bass in the Marshall Island. He was the owner of Bass Construction and was responsible for building many churches in our community as well as several other states. He was also named the Director of Construction for the Ridge Haven Conference Center for the Presbyterian Church of America. In Bud’s words; “I was called by the Lord to build churches”.

Bud and his wife Darlene visited every state in the United States including Hawaii. They also visited Canada, Mexico, Peru and many foreign countries. They also went on many cruises, tours and mission trips.

Survivors include two daughters, Martha Cuevas and husband Jorge and Debbie Smith and husband Greg both of Brevard; grandchildren, Andrew Cuevas and wife Kristyn, J. B. Cuevas and wife Danielle, Sarah Smith Heitman, Joe Smith and friend Megan Krause and her son Kaiden; four great-grandchildren Stella Kate, Hailey, Skylar and Ryan; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2pm, Friday, June 23, 2017 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Tom Arnold. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.

A very special thanks to caregivers and friends Faye McCall, Keely Owensby, Karina (Sherrills) Maldonado, Marie Hughes and others that were so helpful during his illness. Special thanks to his daughters Martha Cuevas and Debbie Smith.

Pallbearers will be Greg Smith, Jorge Cuevas, J. B. Cuevas, Andrew Cuevas and Joe Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Rhett Sanders, Gary Letchworth, Jan Senneker and Tom Arnold.
