Obituary for James Russell Maney

James Russell  Maney
James “Russell” Maney, 85, of Brevard went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 4, 2018.

He was the son of the late Julius Homer and Laura Kirkland Maney.

Russell was a devoted Christian serving in Cathey’s Creek Baptist Church as a Sunday School teacher for many years. He graduated from Swain County High School. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Olin after 33 years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors, feeding and nurturing wildlife. Russell was an avid fisherman and relished everything to do with fishing. He spent his spare time studying the gospel.

Survivors include the love of his life for 63 years, Louise Wiggins Maney; daughter, Wanda Houck and husband Michael of Dubois, WY; brothers, Ernest Maney and wife Barbara of Pisgah Forest and Paul Maney of Bryson City; granddaughters, Katie Benson and husband Landon of Colorado Springs, CO and Rebecca Houck of Driggs, ID.

Funeral Services will be held 2pm, Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Cathey’s Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
