Carolyn McCall Austin, 85, of Penrose passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Park Ridge Hospital. She was a native of Transylvania County, residing in Little River most of her life, daughter of Lunia L. and Ruth Howell McCall.

Carolyn was strong in her faith and loved her Lord. Being one of the founding families of Transylvania she enjoyed studying the genealogy of her family lines. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Daughters of the Confederacy. Carolyn enjoyed working with children and retired from Transylvania County Child Development. She also loved to work in her yard cutting her own grass, while enjoying her beautiful flowers and feeding the birds.

Carolyn was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, James Austin, who passed away this January; her parents, her sister Jacqueline Whitaker, and son-in-laws Douglas Cooper and Robert Lambert.

Carolyn is survived by her three daughters Paula Lambert Davis and her husband Charles, Debra Blackwell and her husband Hank, and Linda Souther and her husband Steve; her grandchildren Robin Strait (Matt), Carol Walker (Wes), Michael Cooper (Kristin), Cassie Ashworth, T.J. Souther (Hannah), Sarah Bond (Kell); and her great-grandchildren Ava and Emma, Callie and Austin, Teagan, Lilli and Ellis, and Alina, Cooper and Luke. Carolyn, always with a smile, will be dearly missed by her family.

Funeral Services for Carolyn Austin will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 14th, 2018 at Little River Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Little River Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. 51 Little River Baptist Church Rd.; Penrose, NC 28766.
