Obituary for Barbara McCall Jones
Barbara Faye McCall Jones, age 90, of Brevard, passed away on December 6, 2022.
Mrs. Jones was born March 28, 1932, in Transylvania County. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence Franklin McCall and Nora Lee Hogsed McCall. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Jay Jones, her brother Everett Jennings McCall, and her sister Jeanette Aguilera.
Barbara spent her first twelve years in the Cherryfield community of Transylvania County on her beloved “Mason Creek”. She always spoke fondly of these days and described them as some of the happiest of her life.
She was a proud 1949 graduate of Brevard High School. She loved all of her classmates and felt a true kinship with each of them.
Her first job was with JC Penney Company in Hendersonville, where she worked in the tube room and manned the switchboard. She later worked for Mary Jane McCrary in the real estate and insurance business, and it was there where she met her future husband. The couple established Martin Jones Sheet Metal Shop, which grew into Martin Jones Heating and Air Conditioning and served Transylvania County and surrounding areas until 1989.
Barbara came to know Jesus Christ as her Savior at a young age. She was baptized in Peter Weaver Creek and became a member of Cherryfield Baptist Church. In 1944, she moved her letter to Pisgah Forest Baptist where she was an active member for almost the remainder of her life.
Barbara is survived by three children, Kevin of Greenville, SC, David of Brevard, and Holly of Brevard, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 3 PM on Monday, December 12, 2022, at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends at the graveside 30 minutes prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her daughter’s animal rescue, Labor of Love, PO Box 392, Horse Shoe, NC 28742.
