Obituary for Barbara Ann Kinghorn (Taylor)
Barbara Ann Kinghorn (nee Taylor) of Brevard, NC passed away March 25 ,2023 at the age of 89. Barb, born May 22, 1933, was the daughter of Leo and Thelma Taylor. She grew up in a Vermont farmhouse surrounded by 6 siblings.
In her teens she met Bob Kinghorn, her high school sweet heart and forever dance partner. They wed at 19 and spent 47 wonderful years together, until Bob’s passing in 1999. During their marriage, they raised 3 children. Bob’s career, with Bethlehem Steel, led them to live in several states along the East coast. They eventually settled in Glen Arm, Maryland where they lived for many years. She moved to Brevard NC in 2016 and enjoyed living at College Walk Retirement Community since 2020.
Through her life, Barb held several administrative positions. She worked at The College of Notre Dame of Maryland, Loyola College, and retired at the age of 83 from the office of Dr. Jeffery Lafferman in Towson Md. In her spare time she enjoyed golf, gardening, movies and music, playing cards and Scrabble. She was always known for her big friendly smile and her strong New England accent.
After the loss of her husband and 2 of her 3 children, our beloved matriarch persevered through these extreme heart breaks and continued to smile, laugh, and be friendly and kind. Her family and friends all marveled at how, at 80 years old, she still mowed her own lawn and worked part time until the age of 83. She had a spunk and strength we all admired. She was strong and direct yet soft and sweet. She was practical and thrifty yet extremely generous to those she loved. She was poised and calm yet could laugh and be silly at the drop of a hat. She was level headed, humble and had incredible common sense.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and 4 of her brothers, her husband S. Robert Kinghorn, her son Dale Kinghorn and her daughter Patricia Carrington.
She is survived by her sister Shirley Hatch of NH, brother Paul Taylor of NY, daughter Stephanie K. Snyder and her husband Bill of Las Vegas NV, son in law Bill Carrington of Brevard NC, grandson Billy Carrington of Brevard NC, grandson Brendan Snyder (Brianne) of Charleston SC, grandson Brian Carrington (Allie) of Brevard NC, granddaughter Kendall Stib (Taylor) of Rio Verde Az, granddaughter Caleigh Snyder of Scottsdale AZ, granddaughter Haven Poush (Caleb) of Avondale Az as well as 7 great grandchildren.
We will truly miss our sweet mom, mother-in-law, nana and great nana, but will be forever grateful for her love and all the things she taught us. Barb had a sign in her kitchen that said “Be honest, Be silly, Be kind.” She lived by these words and excelled at all 3.
A celebration of her life will be held 2pm, Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity in her name.
