Obituary for Ben Bolt

Ben Bolt 86 of Pisgah Forest NC passed away peacefully at his home Sept. 5, 2019. He was born the son of Lonnie and Otelia Bolt and was born near the headwaters of the Tuckasegee River in Jackson county NC. He is preceded in death by his wife Flora Mae Bolt. He is survived by his son Mark Bolt, Grandson Chance Bolt both of Pisgah Forest.
His brothers JD Bolt of Brevard, Erby Bolt of Pisgah Forest, Sisters Ruth Rose of Brevard and Anna Fae Leslie of Pisgah Forest.
Ben was an avid environmentalist who shared his love of nature with everyone he met. He was one of the last true mountain men of the area. He had a strong love of wilderness and wild things. His favorite area was Panthertown Valley or Cold Mountain, as he would call it. I would encourage everyone to venture into this area to experience it and explore the trails he so loved. Salt Rock and Blackrock were a few of his favorite areas. He enjoyed trips into the mountains to go snake hunting or go fishing for speckled trout. He held a strong belief that areas such as this should be protected so they would remain accessible to future generations to explore just as he was able to.

Ben moved to York PA as a young man to work in a screen factory. He returned home to the mountains and began a career with the Ecusta paper mill in Pisgah Forest. He worked on the old side paper machines 1-9 until he retired in 1996. He was able to then spend all his time working on his land. His energy and excitement will be dearly missed.

The family will receive friends Saturday September 7th at 1:00 PM at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home in Brevard NC. The funeral will follow at 2:00 PM in their chapel. Graveside service will be held afterward at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
