Obituary for Betty Jean Fletcher

Betty Morris Fletcher
Heaven is rejoicing today, for a courageous, kind, loving servant of God went home to meet her heavenly father. Betty Morris Fletcher 66, native of Brevard, North Carolina, died at her home on April 13, 2019, after battling Pancreatic Cancer. Betty was born on January 5, 1953, to Jim and Georgia Mae Morris.
Betty has been a blessing to so many people throughout her life. Whether she was your wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt, friend, or part of her church family, when she told you she loved you, you felt it to the inner core of your soul. She was a person who loved life, served God, and put everyone and their needs above her own. She spent most of her days spending time with her husband Jerry, daughter Abbie, and son-in-law Tim, and grandchildren Bre and Kate; laughing, singing, and playing UNO. She also enjoyed cooking pound cakes, reading books especially her Bible, telling others about how God had blessed her lately, and working with children, at church and in her daughter's class.
Betty worked at Dupont for 25 years until the plant closed, then transferred to working for Transylvania County, before retiring to take care of her granddaughters Kate and Breanna. During her retirement, she volunteered at Mills River Elementary School in Abbie’s classroom working to help children learn and have fun! She was an active member in her church, helping to provide meals, cakes and give love and support to many members. She also visited several homebound friends and people in nursing homes just to show them love and play cards with them.
Betty was an amazing person, inside and out. She was the kind of person who left a stamp on your heart the first time she met you. She had a unique gift of showing love and kindness; she just made you feel as if you were the most important person in the world.
Betty is survived by her husband Jerry, daughter Abbie, Son-in-law Tim, two grandchildren Breanna, and Kate. She is also survived by her siblings and their family Bill, Lois, Larry, and Jerry as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Georgia Mae Morris, and brothers Chuck, Bobby, and Jimmy “Poncho”.
Betty’s Celebration of Life Service will be held on April 27th, 2019, at Carr’s Hill Baptist Church in Brevard, NC. The visitation will be held from 10:00-11:15; the Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:30. The service will be officiated by Pastors Shane Hardesty, Leo Doyle, and Dick Westbrook.
