Obituary for Bobby Dean Bishop

Bobby Dean Bishop, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2020.
Bobby was born in Landrum, SC on October 3, 1927 to Elbert and Jessie (Lawter) Bishop. He moved to Tryon, NC at the age of 2 and that became his hometown.
In 1945 he ventured up to New York and worked on the Hudson River Day Excursion boat up and down the Hudson River. Mr. Bishop served two years 1946-1947 in the United States Navy. After leaving the Navy he came to Brevard to attend Brevard College, and Brevard became his home.
He went to work for Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation in Pisgah Forest in 1951, and retired in 1982 from the Research and Development Department. Early retirement gave him the opportunity to spend quality time with his family. He was very independent and even at the age of 93 worried about his family other than himself.
Mr. Bishop was preceded in death by both of his parents in 1990 and was also preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Ruby Galloway Bishop in 1995.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Brevard. He was a member of Dunn’s Rock Masonic Lodge and the Oasis Shrine Temple headquartered in Charlotte, NC. He was also a member of VFW and American Legion.
Mr. Bishop is survived by his daughters, Marinda (Tommy) Parris of Brevard and Deanna Medford of Brevard; his granddaughter Leslie (Greg) Pressley of Penrose; his great granddaughter Jordan Pressley of Brevard and his great grandson Lane Pressley of Nashville, TN; and his great great-granddaughter Khamoni Lucas of Brevard; his blended family, granddaughters Jessie (BJ) Riggs and three children of Pisgah Forest, Cassie (Seth) Gerring and two children of Brevard, and grandson Brandon (Karin) Medford and four children of Greer, SC;
his only sister Martha Wheeler of Brevard, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a quiet, gentle man. He never raised his voice and his favorite saying was “Less you say, the less you have to take back” Words of wisdom to live by. He was “Gramps” to us all. He loved his family with all his heart and soul.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 am Friday, October 16, 2020 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory with Rev. Jeff Maynard officiating. Military honors will be provided by the US Navy and the Transylvania County Honor Guard.
