Obituary for Burton Winfield Potter
Burton W. “Burt” Potter, age 84, of Pisgah Forest passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019.
He was the son of the late Thomas and Frances Liska Potter. He was preceded in death by his brother, Martin Potter.
Burt’s entire working career was with IBM which gave him and his wife the opportunity to travel all over the world including a 3.5 year assignment to the Netherlands. Upon their return, they quickly moved to their favorite place in the world, the mountains of Western NC where they have lived for the past 27 years.
Burt was a talented woodworker having built everything from furniture to a two story home. He was a member of St Timothy United Methodist Church. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jean Ivey Potter, one daughter, Cheryl Mills of Raleigh, four sons, Brian Potter of Durham, Craig Potter of Cary, David Potter of Pisgah Forest and Troy Ellis of Durham, one brother, Victor Potter of Oxford, two sisters, Roberta Hibbelm of Swartz Creek, MI and Margaret Neal of Durand, MI, grandchildren, Curtis, Kyle, Lucas, Naaman, Aaron and Vivian, great grandchildren, Emma Grace and Jesse Dean.
A Memorial service will be held 3pm, Saturday, May 18, 2019 at St Timothy United Methodist Church.
