Obituary for Carolyn Melissa Stepp (Burrell)
Our sweet one, Carolyn Burrell Stepp was healed on the morning of August 9, 2019 at eighty-nine years of age. She no longer struggles with the infirmities that plagued her, she is with her Lord and Savior and reunited with those that went on before her. Oh, she will be missed, but how wonderful that she is now healed!
Carolyn was never idle. She worked hard all of her life taking care of others, helping Bill on the farm and finding the time to be the sweetest, most attentive mother that Sandy could have asked for. She loved her granddaughter beyond reason, spoiled her absolutely rotten and refused to apologize for it, saying, that was what grandchildren were for. She mothered Ronnie, too, always believing that she could take better care of him than Sandy could, earning him the nickname of “The Favorite.” She said she was satisfied with her move to Brevard so that Sandy, Ronnie and Joanna could be closer to her and joked that she knew exactly how to get to their house and might just walk over to see them one evening.
Carolyn has been missing her late husband William from the moment that he passed away. It brings us so much comfort to know that they are finally together again after these eight long years. Two peas in a pod if there ever were any. In addition to missing Bill, Carolyn mourned her parents, Grover and Arrie Burrell, her sisters Geneva, Nina and Pauline. Her brothers, Fred, Charles, Bob and Roy. She missed all of her family that left before her. It is hard not to smile when you think of all of them together again and laughing and playing games! It must be a Joyous Noise, indeed!
Her faith was strong and unwavering. She never ceased to pray for her sister June, and her nieces and nephews from both sides of her and Bill’s family. As her illness progressed, she worried about her sisters-in-laws that she wasn’t able to go to see or do things for, really the only time she complained about being sick was when the sickness restricted her ability to help others. No one in our family should ever doubt that she cared about you. Never doubt that your visits, letters, cards and calls were not treasured by her. They were and so were you.
She was also blessed with good friends and neighbors and she included all of you in her prayers as adopted family members and appreciated your visits, kindnesses and telephone calls. As her health declined and her ability to cook for the church or offer food to visitors diminished, it saddened Carolyn that she was not contributing back, but that kind heart and accepting nature was certainly an abundant contribution to those that received it.
Through these last months we have received so much kindness from new friends as well as old friends. Thank you, Carr’s Hill choir for coming to sing to her, she and the other residents enjoyed hearing those old hymns and seeing your smiling faces. Thank you to our sweet family members and faithful friends that have made the trip to Brevard to visit with her to bring her comfort, because bring comfort is exactly what you did. Thank you to the pastors and chaplains that ministered to her, oh, you brought her such peace! Illness did not remove her desire to worship and praise and your visits assisted her with doing so. Thank you to the very special staff of the Memory Care Unit of the Oaks who treated her so well during these last declining months and for the loving care she received from Four Seasons Hospice staff and volunteers. All of you made these last days more comfortable for her.
The memorial service will be held at 11 AM Friday, August 16, 2019 in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
