Obituary for Cecil Clarence Sanders
Cecil Sanders, age 89 of Sapphire, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2020.
He was the son of the late Isaiah and Ola Norton Sanders. He was precededed in death by his wife of 62 years, Hilda Sanders, one daughter, Irma Sanders Shelton, one sister, Evon Taylor and three brothers, Ray, Robert, and Lane Sanders.
Cecil had a 22 year career in the US Army, serving two tours in Vietnam. While stationed in Salzburg, Austria he met and married Hilda. After traveling through various posts in Europe and the US they decided to return to Transvlvania County to retire in 1975, where they lived out their lives. Cecil was a bit of a practical joker and loved to "pull people's legs" at times. Above all, he was a very caring and generous person. He will be missed by many.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandy Sanders, two nephews, Rex Taylor, Terry Sanders, three nieces, Nanny Sue Scroggs, Brenda Buckner and Robby Price, one son in law, Larry Shelton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Transylvania Human Society to help support Cecil's love for dogs.
Due to Covid 19, a memorial will be held at a later date.
