Master Sergeant (Retired) Charles Furman “Chuck” Calhoun, 86, of Brevard, NC, passed away peacefully at home on December 8, 2021, following a period of declining health. His loving wife, Jean, was by his side. He was the eldest of five children born to the late Charlie Dunn Calhoun and Lucy Stewart Calhoun.
After graduating from Glenville High School, Glenville, NC, Chuck enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country with pride and distinction for more than 20 years. After retiring from the USAF, Chuck worked in sales with Frank Wood Chevrolet in Brevard, NC. On December 21, 1985, Chuck married the love of his life, Jean McCarson. They shared over 35 wonderful years together.
Chuck loved his family, and he loved his Lord. He loved people and he loved life. He enjoyed a good time and was the life of the party. He had a quick wit and great sense of humor. Chuck was a positive person, not a worrier. He enjoyed dancing, singing, and whistling. He was the horseshoe pitching champ of the family - very competitive! His laugh was contagious. He was quite the storyteller, keeping you entertained for hours, and he was not above embellishing a tale or two for entertainment purposes! His favorite pass time was bowling, and he cherished being named the Senior Champion of the WNC Bowling League. Chuck was a member of Mt. Moriah Calvert Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Dunn’s Rock #267 Masonic Lodge and the Oasis Shriners.
Surviving to cherish Chuck’s memory in addition to his wife are his son, Charles Furman Calhoun, Jr. (Sharon), of Chattanooga, TN; daughters Denise Calhoun Miller of Brevard, NC; son Charles Furman Calhoun, Jr. (Sharon) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; daughters Autumn Calhoun Woodley Gonzales of Beaufort, SC; Michele Calhoun Greene (Ray) of Asheville, NC; stepdaughter Karen Hittel (Steve) of Richmond, VA; stepson Thomas Banning (Tina) of Gainesville, GA. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, sisters, Reba Calhoun Pendleton (Glenn) of Knightdale, NC; Susan Calhoun Lance (Terry) of Pisgah Forest, NC and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Chuck is preceded in death by his son, Daniel Eugene Calhoun of Pisgah Forest, NC; sisters Barbara Calhoun Burns of Hendersonville, NC and Judy Calhoun McCall of Simpsonville, SC.
