Charles Mabry Harris, 86, passed away peacefully at his home on February 2, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Mabry was born in Florida and moved his family to Brevard in 1972 where he owned and operated Harris Ace Hardware on Main Street until his retirement at which time his son, Jimmy, took over operations. Mabry was a long-time member of Brevard Wesleyan Church, served Brevard as a volunteer fireman for 22 years, sat on the Brevard City Council for 12 years, and was President of the Brevard Chamber of Commerce.
Mabry loved to travel with his wife Shelby, taking trips to Israel, Alaska, and exploring the U.S. in their RV. Mabry was a faithful servant of the Lord, a devoted husband, dedicated father, and doting grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Shelby Harris; brother, Gerald Harris; children Sue Harris Robinson, Jimmy Harris, Darah Paige Harris Trent, Dr. Rachel Harris Coward, Andre Treadway, and Bryan Treadway; grandchildren Mabry and Greer Robinson, Cassi, Calla, and Cooper Harris, Sophia and Annabella Trent, Emma Coward, Will Treadway and Jennifer Treadway O’Dea, Sarah, Bennett, and Christopher Treadway.
Mabry was preceded in death by his parents James Harris and Mary Harris Chase; sister Carolyn Walkup; first wife Marie Harris; and grandson Quinn Harris.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Brevard Wesleyan Church are appreciated. A memorial service is planned for 2 PM February 25, 2023, at Brevard Wesleyan Church. A reception will follow.
