Obituary for Charles Lesley Shipman

Charles Lesley Shipman, age 86, of Brevard, passed away on December 5, 2018 at the Elizabeth House.
A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late Fleet and Nellie Parker Shipman. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Luther, Glenn, Gertha, Johnny, Kenneth Shipman, and Neil Prince and His sisters, Kathryn S. Gillspie and Joyce Shelton.
After graduating from Brevard High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy. During his enlistment, he was active in the Korean War.
Charles retired from Olin after 36 years of service. During his retirement, he served on the Board of Directors for the Ecusta Credit Union. He worked with the Transylvania County Recreation Department umpiring softball games. Charles was a member of First Baptist Church of Brevard where he served as a deacon, usher, various committees, and Co-Director of Adult 3 Sunday School class. At the time of his death, he was employed by Moody Connolly Funeral Home. He had a wonderful outlook on life with a great sense of humor that would brighten everyone’s day.
Survivors include the love of his life for 61 years, Shirley Byrd Shipman, two children, Leslie S. Swanson and husband William of Horseshoe and Charles Robert (Bobby) Shipman and wife Kelli of Sperryville,VA, two sisters, Louise Shelton and husband Johnny and Hazel Deese both of Hayesville, NC, four grandsons, Robinson Wright, Parker Wright and wife Olivia, Jackson Wright, and Mason Shipman, one granddaughter, Emily Shipman and one great granddaughter, Hazel Abigail Wright.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11am, Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Brevard with the Revs. Hank Moffitt and Jeff Maynard officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow the service in the Welcome Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Charles Shipman Kentucky Mission fund c/o Ecusta Credit Union, 2074 Asheville Hwy, Brevard, NC 28712.
