Obituary for Daniel Douglas Powell Sr.
Daniel Douglas Powell, Sr. (Danny), 72, of Rosman, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 29, 2023. A lifelong resident of Transylvania County, he was the son of Leason Mack Powell and Mamie “Esther” Butler Powell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Stewart.
Danny graduated from Rosman High School in 1971. He was employed by DuPont for 30 years. He also worked for the Town of Rosman, Transylvania County Solid Waste, and drove a school bus for Transylvania County Schools. He was an active member of the Rosman Rescue Squad and Fire Department for many years and served as chief for a time.
Danny was a devoted husband, father, paw paw, friend, neighbor, and caregiver. He loved being outside and enjoyed yard work and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Powell and his children, Samantha Ray (Kenny), Daniel Powell, Jr. (Ruthie), and Aimee Powell (Michael), and his beloved grandchildren, Jonathan Ray and Cece Williams. He is also survived by a brother, Bobby Powell and sisters, Roberta Mizell and Dana Powell, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at the Moody Connolly Funeral Home in Brevard. A funeral service will be held at Midway Bible Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 2 p.m. with Reverends Ricky Lee, Chester Chappell, and Steven Fanning officiating. Burial will follow at the Middlefork/Galloway Cemetery in Rosman.
