Obituary for David Ammons

David “Joe” Leroy Ammons, 75, resident of Tuckasegee/Little Canada area of Jackson County went to be with the Lord on January 20, 2024 at Mission Hospital/Asheville Campus after an extended illness. Joe had been a resident of Skyland Care Center in Sylva, NC for the past two years. During his stay, his roommate, Nicky Watson, became a very dear friend.



He was proceeded in death by his parents Jim and Libby Owen Ammons and brother James Ammons.



Joe was co-owner of Ammons Brothers Nursery and enjoyed landscaping, growing Christmas trees, flowers and shrubs and enjoyed selling them at Smiley’s Flea Market. Joe loved being outside, working along side his wife and his beloved dog, Lucky.



Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Linda; sisters Mary Ammons and Sharon Kephart of Murphy, NC; brother Daniel Ammons of Fletcher, NC; nephew Kevin Owen of Murphy, NC; niece Hope (Clint) Wooten of Murphy, NC; great-niece Rebekah Wooten of Murphy, NC; step-son Tony (Shana) Banks of Winston-Salem, NC and step-daughter Tina (Terry) Young of Marion, NC.



Funeral services will be held 2pm, Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Woods Memorial Baptist Church, 2396 Tanasee Gap Road, Balsam Grove, NC Church with Rev. Carroll Poole fficiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Wolf Mountain Cemetery. Rev. Carroll Poole will be officiating.
