Obituary for David Arthur Rundell

Dave Rundell, 91, of Brevard, formerly of Miami Springs, Florida, passed away on Feb. 22, 2022, after a brief illness.

Born in Waterbury, Connecticut on Dec. 14, 1930, he moved with his parents, Richard and Nadine Rundell, to Miami as an infant. He graduated from Miami Senior High School and served as a photographer for the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Palau. After the navy, he worked in the mailroom of The Miami Herald, until taking a job at Pan Am Airlines, where he was a maintenance staff associate, keeping track of aircraft maintenance schedules.

He met his beloved wife Joan – a flight attendant for United Airlines – at a waterskiing club, and they married in 1968. Dave retired from Pan Am in 1991, after more than 40 years.

In addition to traveling, Dave enjoyed fishing and watching sports. He instilled his love for sports in his son Wayne and often supported his grandsons Bradley and Tyler, as they participated in soccer, baseball, track and basketball.

In 2014, he and Joan, along with Wayne and his family, moved to Brevard from Miami Springs.

He is survived by Joan; his son from his first marriage Rick Rundell of Ft. Lauderdale; Wayne (Bethany); his grandchildren Amy Cole, Katie, Bradley, Christopher, Tanya and Tyler; and his great grandchildren MJ and Max. He is preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Dick, his daughter from his first marriage Linda Rundell and his older sister Shirley Jobe.

The family will hold a private graveside service at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in his memory be made to Calvary Baptist Church of Brevard, 133 Osborne Road, Brevard, or online at CalvaryBrevard.com.
