Obituary for Debbie Sue Felker (Matzke)

Debbie S. Felker passed away peacefully on Saturday September 26, 2020 in the Elizabeth House after a three-year fight with Pancreatic Cancer. She is survived by husband Marti, daughters, Tamra Thacker (Randy) of Howell MI, Michele Salmon (Scott) of Fort Scott KS, and a daughter-in-law Jeanette Felker of Toledo OH. She was preceded in death by son Mark Felker.
Debbie is also survived by siblings, Marie Tenold of Coon Rapids MN and David Matzke of Wyoming MN, and a “special little Sis” Sheri Raduechel of Harris MN as well as ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers Joseph, Richard and Michael Matzke all of Minnesota. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews in Minnesota.
Debbie graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School and practiced Infectious Disease in Toledo OH for 20 yrs. Debbie retired to Brevard in 2001 and feeling you should always give back, she volunteered at the Free Medical Clinic, Free Rein, Bread of Life and Connestee Fire Rescue.
Believing that her Savior Jesus Christ died and rose for all of us Debbie became very active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brevard. She served as a Lector, Eucharist Minister, Ladies Guild member and started the first Ladies Day of Reflection bringing women of all faiths together to worship the Lord. But her true love was Pastoral Care helping the sick and terminally ill finish their journey on earth and enter eternity with their Savior Jesus Christ. Even while fighting a terminal disease herself, Debbie continued to minister to others who were undergoing chemo treatments with her at the Greenville Hospital Cancer Center.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mark O’Rourke, PA, Ashely Burriss and RN Cassie Wiseman, and to the many friends and neighbors who walked with them through Debbie’s journey
