Obituary for DL Owen

DL Owen (1938-2022), passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, just six weeks shy of his eighty-fourth birthday.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Emma Owen, his brothers and sisters Viola Owen, Thelma Maggard, Al Owen, Virgie Galloway, Curtis Owen, and Wilkie Owen, and a grandson, John Owen.

He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Virginia, two sons, Brian Owen and Scott King-Owen; two grandchildren, Abigail and Samantha Owen; and three siblings; Dixie Owen, Dan Owen, and Rosalee Bruce.

In his younger days, he could be found camping or on horseback, enjoying the mountains and scaring his boys with stories of panthers and wild women roaming the woods. Toward the end of his life, he could be found in his chair by the heater, listening to “Have a Little Talk with Jesus” and local preachers and enjoying a Coke in a glass bottle because it tasted best. He was full of stories about the hundreds of people and places he knew, such as the time he and his brother Wilkie lost control of their car as they were learning to drive and crashed, crushing a precious bologna sandwich in the accident.

The family is not holding a visitation or a service, but is asking that all who knew him to remember the funny, kind, and generous friend and father who has gone home to his eternal rest.
