Obituary for Dorothy Jean Aiken (Smith)

Brevard - Dorothy Jean Aiken, age 82 , went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday evening, May 2nd while surrounded by her family at home.

She was born March 16, 1939 to the late William “Rusty” Smith and Julia Clayton Fisher (Smith). She was a native of Transylvania County where she spent her entire life.

Jean gave her life to the Lord on August 24, 1963. At this time, she was faithfully tending to her home as a full-time homemaker and raising her small children. She allowed the Lord to use her life, devotedly serving as a Pastor’s wife, teaching Sunday School, working as a youth leader, writing and directing Christmas programs, and impacting countless individuals for over 38 years of ministry as her husband pastored. Over these years, she also went on many mission trips and completed online courses at Liberty Bible College.

She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Ray Aiken and a granddaughter Ashley Aiken.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Allen Aiken, Delayne Shipman (Darrell), Phillip Aiken, Jimmy Aiken (Reneé), Rhonda Huggins (Gary), and Raychelle Berry (Joey), along with Mike Rogers and his family whom she loved as her own.

Those blessed to call her Grandmother are her 33 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Also left to cherish her memory is her sister, Pat Ashe, and brother, Charles “Hardrock” Smith, along with several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 5th at 2pm at Old Toxaway Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 5th at 6:30pm at Midway Bible Baptist Church in Brevard, NC. The family will receive friends following the service. All are welcome to attend any and all services.
