Obituary for Eddie Dean Chapman
Brevard - Eddie Dean Chapman, born on October 2, 1947, went to sleep waiting on Jesus to call him home on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at his SC home.
He was the son of the late Cyrus Edward and Lottie Mae Dodson Chapman. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Lonnie Chapman.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years Linda Barton Chapman, daughters, Evelyn Diane Chapman and Lisa D. Chapman Sims of the home, grandsons, Jason Henderson (Julie) of Surrency Georgia, Richard Parker and Victor Sims Jr. and his #1 granddaughter, Ashley Sims Thomas (Kevin) of Fort Polk, Louisiana, four great grandsons, Corban Henderson, Camdyn Henderson, Jamie Parker and Ezra Thomas.
He graduated from Rosman High School in 1965. In the 80s and 90s, Eddie built many houses, Mica's Restaurant in Sapphire, a housing project in Statesville, NC and a manufacturing plant in SC. He became a paint contractor later in life and painted many houses in Transylvania County not by advertising but by word-of-mouth. Mostly, Eddie will be remembered for his love of country music. He played many years with the Carolina Country Band mostly at the Lake Toxaway and Balsam Grove Community Centers. He willingly played for benefits free of charge to help people he did not even know. His most requested song was “My Farewell Party” by Gene Watson. He could play multiple music instruments and wrote some of his own songs.
His wish was to be cremated and laid to rest at the Whitmire Cemetery on Flat Creek Valley Road. A Celebration of Life for Eddie will be announced at a later date.
