Obituary for Edith Brown Chapman

Edith Brown Chapman, 88, of Brevard passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Oaks of Brevard. She was born December 13, 1929 in Jackson County, North Carolina to the late John Robert and Clercie Ashe Brown.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth (Libby) Chapman Holcombe of Columbia, South Carolina. Her siblings, Chester Brown, Ima McCall, Etta Owen, Sue Bishop, Katie Perkins Lusk, Wendell Brown, Mary Ellen Hartman and infant brother, Carl Lee Brown.

Surviving is her oldest sister Nora Israel of Brevard; her daughters Hazel Cleveland (Buzz) of Cleveland, S.C., Janie McCall (Ray) of Pisgah Forest, N.C., Angie Mayes (Troy) of Fountain Inn, S.C. She was blessed with seven grandchildren: Chris Holcombe, Eric Holcombe, Beth Anne Hooper, Brooke Austin, Ashley Miller, Erin and Emily Mayes and four great grandchildren: Meredith Hooper, Henry Holcombe, Ryan Kate Austin and Harris Holcombe.

She was retired from Ecusta Paper Mill after 19 years of service working in the Finishing Department. She was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed special times with her family and friends and they certainly enjoyed her special meals. She was an unselfish daughter, mother and sister who always put her family first. Many times she welcomed in those that were in need.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel in Brevard, N.C. with Pastor Chester Chappell officiating. A visitation will follow the service at Moody-Connolly. A private graveside service will be held Monday, October 22, 2018 at the Blue Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest, N.C.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the care givers at Cedar Mountain House, The Oaks of Brevard and Care Partners Hospice for their loving and dedicated care given to Edith over the past many years.
