Obituary for Elizabeth Carol Lamberton (Watt)

Elizabeth Carol Lamberton (Watt, Johnson), “Betty”, 78, of Brevard, NC died Wednesday, November 4, 2020, after a heroic battle with cancer.

Betty leaves behind a loving husband of 8 years, Roger Lamberton, and his three sons. Predeceased by her late husband of 50 years, Brian Johnson, they leave behind son William Johnson and his wife Jennifer of Grantham, NH, son Todd Johnson and his wife Kate of Mercer Island, WA, and daughter Sue Lucas and her husband Brian of Windermere, FL, as well as many grandchildren.

She was born and raised in Belleville, NJ, the daughter of the late John Watt and Hazel Morris Watt and sister of William Watt and his wife Bethel of Carlsbad, CA. Betty raised her children in Upper Saddle River, NJ, active in school boards, church activities, and working as a chiropractic assistant, before retiring in 1998 to Brevard, where she fell in love with the mountains, waterfalls, birds, and white squirrels.

Betty led a full life. She was an avid tennis player. Music brought her joy, singing in church and community choirs, and a season member at Brevard Philharmonic and the Music Center. She enjoyed travel, particularly cruising, and visited all seven continents. Betty was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Ramsey, NJ, and First United Methodist Church in Brevard, NC, where she served as a deacon, Stevens Minister, bible study student, VBS teacher, and participant in community events.

She is beloved by many – family, tennis buddies, hiking friends, and church family. Many will remember her for never forgetting to send a birthday card. The family is grateful to all of the friends who did so much to support Mom in her last years.

A heart full of love and laughter, Betty was humble in giving of her time and money. Some of her favorite charities included Covenant House, Prison Ministry, Inheritance of Hope, and United Way of Transylvania County. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to one of Betty's favorite philanthropies.

Memorial services will be held online, on Saturday, November 28th at 2 PM. The service will be streamed live on Facebook and you will find the bulletin in the comments section.
