Obituary for Fred Houston McCrary

Mr. Fred Houston McCrary of Brevard, NC peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at the age of 89.
He was born to the late Joseph and Mary Shipman McCrary on February 16, 1930, also of Brevard, NC.
Fred was the youngest of his family which consisted of six brothers and four sisters. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Carl Caleb McCrary and wife Mary Jane, Charles McCrary and wife Ruth, Arthur McCrary and wife Zebbie, Clyde McCrary and wife Edna Taylor McCrary, and Harold Joseph McCrary who was MIA during WWII, his sisters, Nell Disher and husband Charlie, Lillie Paxton and husband Ralph, Edna Bryson and husband Carl, Clarice Jackson and husband Vance, Sr. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Jean Clark, on January 11, 2019. She was the eldest daughter to the late Clyde and Aileen Stewart Clark of Caesar’s Head, SC.
Survivors include nephews, Patrick McCrary, Michael McCrary and wife Virginia, Robert McCrary and wife Carol, Jimmy McCrary and wife Carolyn, Edward Paxton, John Paxton and wife Lillian, Harold Paxton, Charles Bryson, Vance Jackson Jr.; Nieces, Mayron Sprinkle and Delores Parker. He is also survived by many loving great nephews and nieces and a number of great great nephews and nieces.
Special appreciation to: Rose Rathbone, Dez Chavez, Mia Robertson, Alex Fisher and, Jason and Laura Leistner.
Fred worked in the trucking industry, the concrete industry, construction and grading. He was also a farmer and raised cattle in and around Transylvania County, in addition to being a very interesting story teller about his life experiences.
An informal memorial will be organized on Fred and Jean’s property at 235 Morningside Dr., Brevard, NC. It will begin at 1:30 Saturday, February 1, 2020. There will be refreshments and finger food served after the memorial has concluded.
