Obituary for Frederik Johannes Van Roessel

Frederik Johannes Van Roessel (“Fred”), 82, of Brevard, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 28.
Fred was born in 1937 in The Hague, The Netherlands. He was the son of the late Gerardus Marinus Johannes Van Roessel and Plonia (Storm) Van Roessel.
As a child, Fred was intrigued by electrical circuitry and newly developing communication technologies. He studied electrical engineering at the University of Delft. Upon his graduation, he was drafted into the Dutch army where he became a second lieutenant in the Dutch Air Force.

In 1964, Fred accepted an invitation to the US to research microwave communications for Bell Telephone Laboratories. Later, and for the duration of his career, Fred managed commercial video production engineering and development departments for Phillips Electronics and Panasonic.

A man of unyielding faith, Fred would testify divine blessing and answered prayer leading to 21 patents for his commercial television camera designs. In 2004 Fred was recognized as a Fellow of the Society of Television and Motion Picture Engineers for his designs. From 2010 on Fred committed his experience to develop nuclear testing software for Lawrenceville Plasma Physics in the field of nuclear energy research.
Fred’s uniqueness and brilliance was evident from an early age. His devout faith and willingness to help in any circumstance encouraged many. He was a kind, humble and secretively generous man. He believed the spirit in which you give is the spirit in which you receive. He was dedicated to his family, his church and many ministries. He is survived by his son Peter St. John (Felice), grandchildren Caleb and Mina, brother Gerard Van Roessel (Betty) of The Netherlands, brother Jan Van Roessel (Nancy) of Washington state and sister Elly Richter (Harm) of Germany and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11am, Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Destiny Christian Fellowship with Pastor Dema Barishnakov officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family will have a private burial.
