Obituary for Gayden Ray Galloway

Gayden Ray Galloway, 94, of Brevard passed away Friday, January 7, 2022, at Transylvania Regional Hospital.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean Swangim Galloway; his daughters, Anita Galloway Mooy, Rita Galloway Carey and her husband Jason, Jennifer Galloway and her husband Varian Salter; grandchildren Stella Mooy, Holly Carey, and Austin and Caleb Salter. He is also survived by his older brother Hershel Galloway of Brevard.

He was born on September 26, 1927, the son of the late James Alvoid Galloway and Mary Malisa McCall Galloway. Upon graduation from Brevard High School in 1945, he entered the Merchant Marines where he served for 9 years before joining the U.S. Army as a military policeman from 1954-1956. He then returned to the merchant marines where he continued his career as a seaman for more than 30 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Ruby Fanning and Bonnie Tinsley.

A memorial service with military honors will be announced at a later date.
