Obituary for Gary Ralph Jordan

Gary Ralph Jordan, 81, of Bryson City went home to be with the Lord Monday, December 12, 2022, after an 8-year journey with Dementia. He was a native of West Greenwich, Rhode Island. He is predeceased by his parents Marie and Ralph Jordan and brother Thomas Jordan, and wife Joanne Jordan.

Gary attended both Bryson City Catholic church where he was a Knights of Columbus and St. Mary’s Catholic church in Sylva until his illness. Gary lived by the Lord’s word. He always said, “Life is about people.” These attributes formed his character.

He helped and supported many, took care of his parents, never spoke an unkind word about anyone, and rarely had disagreements. He loved his wife, family, dogs, and had many friends. Many people often said, “Gary’s so nice.”

Dementia did not steal Gary’s love for his family. What the mind forgets the heart remembers. Dementia also did not steal his gratitude, kindness, and sense of humor. His last words were, “Thank you.”

He attended college while having a career at Hoechst Celanese. He earned an MBA at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. At Hoechst Celanese he was a technical accounts manager and traveled overseas and stateside serving clients with his expertise. He retired in 1998 and was respected and loved.

When he moved to NC in 2000, he worked at Smoky Mountain Railroad for five years as a ticket agent. He loved socializing with people.

He was an avid hunter, golfer, and bowler. He loved to fish, enjoyed the outdoors, and worked on cars. His passion was construction, and he loved home projects. His dad taught him plumbing, electrical, masonry and construction.

In addition to his wife Rose, he is survived by his son Paul Jordan and wife Jennifer Jordan, granddaughters Lindsay and Lauren of Mendon, Massachusetts, son James Jordan and wife Amanda Jordan and granddaughter Lydia RoseAnn Jordan of Jackson, Michigan. As well as father-in-law Peter Namotka of Dillsboro, NC, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, numerous nieces, and nephews.

Rose is very appreciative to all the loving people who cared for “Mr. Care bear” during the last chapter of his life at Kingsbridge House in Brevard, NC as well as Four Seasons who helped during his last days.

A mass for Gary will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, February 4, 2023, at St. Mary Mother of God Catholic Church in Sylva. Friends and family will be notified. His ashes will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery with his parents Ralph and Marie.
