Obituary for George Macdonald Hargreaves

Pisgah Forest – George Macdonald Hargreaves, 88, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2016.

He was the son of the late George and Florence Macdonald Hargreaves. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Mary Enid Hargreaves.

Mr. Hargreaves was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brevard. He served in the past as President of the Kiwanis Club and was an elder in the Presbyterian Church in Saginaw, MI. He retired from ownership of Common Sense Communications in 1989. His earlier employers were the Central Engineering Division of Chrysler Corporation, American Society of Tool and Manufacturing Engineers, Detroit Stamping Company, Industrial Controls Section of the Bendix Corp, and the head of the Technical Writing and Marketing Department of Price Tanner and Willox in Saginaw, MI. George volunteered at the Transylvania County Library and was the former president of the Friends of the Library and was on the Foundation Board of the Library. (These two are separate entities.) He was an avid golfer, an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed reading.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Catherine Armstrong Hargreaves; son George Armstrong Hargreaves of Bagley, MN; daughters Amy Hargreaves Judzis and husband Arnis of Salt Lake City, UT and Jane Carol Hargreaves of Asheville; sister Carol Hargreaves Goodwin of Clinton Township, MI; granddaughters Meagan Hargreaves Viken and Elizabeth A. Hargreaves of MN; nieces and nephew Marybeth, Susan and Geoffry Goodwin.

Memorial services will be held 2pm, Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church of Brevard with the Rev. Mike Jordan officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
