Obituary for Gregory Alan Mills

Brevard - Gregory Alan Mills, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2023, at age 72. He was born on November 15, 1950, in Wadsworth, Ohio, to William and Helen Mills.

Greg was an incredibly talented high school football player who, late in life, cherished giving his collection of vintage Wadsworth High School game programs to his grandsons, Dylan and Aidan Long, of Charlotte.

Following his high school graduation in 1969, Greg attended Kent State University. On May 4, 1970, he witnessed the tragic Kent State shootings of four other students by the Ohio National Guard during a Vietnam War protest. During the 1970s, Greg was an educator in southern California and later owned several Florida preschools before settling in Brevard in the mid-1990s to become a successful real estate broker.

He was a devoted father, remembered fondly by his daughters, Alicia Mills Long of Charlotte, and Kristin Mills McClellan, of Asheville, for supporting their music careers and for his wise guidance and advice. He always seemed to know the answer, no matter the question.

He is also survived by his sister and best friend, Sandy Westney, and his brother-in-law, Curt Westney of Brevard; his son-in-law, David Long; his daughter-in-law, Jen McClellan; his son-in-law, Alex Brown, of Asheville; and his former spouse, Mary Kay Mills Reynolds, of Brevard.

Greg was an avid golfer, a devoted scotch drinker, and a lover of the History Channel. He enjoyed gathering with friends for an evening around a firepit, with Kristin playing her acoustic guitar. Boating was a passion, and his daughters fondly remember him taking them to explore the islands near Sebastian Inlet in Melbourne Beach, Florida. Additionally, he deeply loved classic rock music, having spent a memorable evening with the legendary Jimi Hendrix in his younger years.

Greg touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

His family will celebrate his life privately. His family wishes to thank Greg’s sister, Sandy, and his caregivers for their devoted, loving care during Greg’s long illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to The Hospice Foundation of America at http://bit.ly/3XsJ31K.
