Obituary for Henry Theodore Huth Jr.

Brevard - Henry Theodore “Ted” Huth Jr., 85, passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years Marilyn Ryon Huth, and his parents, Adelaide Morris Huth and Henry Theodore Huth, Sr. He was born July 31, 1935 in Jersey City, N.J., and grew up on the Southside of Chicago, Ill. It is there he met lifelong friends that became known as the “Chicago Group.” They kept in touch and vacationed together in his childhood and later when they had retired.
He graduated from Fenger High School in Chicago and earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology.
Upon graduation, he worked for several aircraft companies in California: Douglas Aircraft Company, Northrop Corporation, and Hughes Aircraft Company. In 1966, he joined IBM and worked on the landing lunar module for Apollo 11 and the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) projects. He transferred to Raleigh, NC, and later to Charlotte, N.C. where he retired from IBM in the early 1990s. He consulted and taught Microsoft Excel classes in the Charlotte area.
He loved to travel and ride his Harley. He rode several cross-country motorcycle trips including the Harley-Davidson 85th, 90th, 95th, and 100th anniversary rides, and rally trips to Sturgis, S.D.; Daytona Beach, Fl; and Myrtle Beach, S.C. He was a charter member and past director of the Charlotte (N.C.) Harley-Davidson Owners Group (H.O.G.) club. He started an annual January ride that was later named after him.
He also enjoyed golf, loved dancing and was an avid reader. He loved to wear hats and had a hat for about every occasion—including his Chicago Cubs hat that he wore when he attended the World Series games in 2016.
He was a loving husband and caring father and grandfather. He laughed easily and often and leaves a behind numerous friends of all ages and years of stories.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years Linda Huth, and his four children: David T. Huth and wife Virginia Beth Shields of Lakeland, Fl.; Laura H. Ferren and husband Art of Cornelius, N.C.; Elizabeth H. White and husband Chris of Kernersville, N.C.; and Amy H. Butterworth and husband Kevin of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and his stepchildren Scott Davis of Charlotte, N.C; and Brian Davis and husband Robby Rollins, of Charlotte, N.C. He was a grandfather to Nicole and Sydney Ferren, Sam White, Haley Huth, Marilyn Butterworth and Jessica Davis. He also is survived by his brother John Williams Huth and nephew John Huth and wife Patti, all of Littleton, Colo., and nieces Carrie Thorton and husband Matt of Arvada, Colo., and Adelaide Rase and husband Chris of Rochester, Mich.
A celebration of life will be held in 2021.
