Obituary for Henry P. Tinsley, Jr.

Henry Porter Tinsley, Jr. “Pop Henry” 82, of Brevard passed away on July 20, 2022.

He was born June 20, 1940, in Transylvania County he was the son of the late Azilee and Henry Tinsley.
Henry started his career at Olin in Brevard where he met his wife of 62 years Martha Jane Johnson. After Olin he went to work for Daniels Construction from 1966 to 1991 at the Brevard Dupont Site before retiring. He continued working as a handy man and landscaper as he loved being outdoors and working with his hands. He spent his free time at the lake with his family or having picnics in Pisgah National Forest. He was a master of many trades including gardening, woodworking, and cooking. No one ever went hungry at Pops house as he always had something he could whip up or a new treat he wanted you to try. He was in the process of writing his own cookbook up to the days he became ill. We all would tease him when he showed up to help you because he always packed his own lunch and would bring you a freshly made biscuit for breakfast. His mother owned a nursery and that’s where he got his green thumb. He always had a knack for growing flowers and a garden with everything blooming and coming in just right. To the end he would get out and tend to his garden growing vegetables, work in his flower beds or crafting new woodworking projects.

He is survived by his loving wife Martha Jane Tinsley, his daughters Gina Summey (husband Davie Summey) and Christy Stansel (husband Roger Stansel) all of Brevard, three grandchildren Adam Summey, Hannah Stansel and Garrett Stansel, and a great grand-daughter Chloe Summey. He was a friend to all and a stranger to none. He was a loving husband, father and friend who always took care of others.

The family held a private graveside ceremony at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Brevard, NC

In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Transylvania County Sharing House as he loved supporting his community through them.
