Obituary for Ila Stophel Israel (Owen)
Ila Stophel Israel, age 88 of Rosman, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2019.
She was the daughter of the late Holland and Ollie Stophel and the late Harrison and Cora Owen. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Albert Israel, her brothers, Manuel and Ken Stamey, and her sister, Dora Farley.
Mrs. Israel was a graduate of Rosman High School and lived almost all her adult life in Rosman. She had various jobs in her life but her favorite was her volunteer job at Tiger Town Thrift Store in Rosman where she helped a lot of people and made lasting friendships.
She was a member of Zion Baptist Church and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and just recently, great-grandmother.
Survivors include her two sons, Chester Israel and wife Sandy, and Kent Israel and wife Tammy all of Rosman; one daughter, Anita Bezera and husband Michael of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Stephanie Painter, Justin Israel, Jessica Roess, Brittany Israel, and Olivia Israel; great-granddaughter, Osie Chapman; one brother, Bill Owen; two sisters, Lela Galloway and Tabitha Owen.
The funeral service will be held at 1 PM Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Zion Baptist Church. Interment will follow in G.W. Whitmire Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Baptist Church in Rosman, NC or to Western Carolina Community Action.
