Pisgah Forest - James Archie Driggers, Sr. passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021.
He was a native of Hope Mills, NC, born September 27, 1931, the youngest child of Samuel Douglas and Grace Robinson Driggers. He is preceded in death by his brothers Sam and “Buck,” and his sisters Elva and Liz.
Archie married his high school sweetheart Merle Garner Driggers, with whom he celebrated 68 years of marriage. Together they raised a family which included two sons, James, a resident of Orlando, Fla., and Mark (deceased); three daughters, Larke Foster of Jonesborough, Tenn.; Ann Wright of Hendersonville; Katrina Ronneburger of Pisgah Forest, and their niece Teresa Chafey of Moore, S.C. Archie served in the Air Force attaining the rank of sergeant. He used funds from the GI Bill to obtain his BS degree in textiles from NC State University in 1957. A proud and loyal NC State fan, Archie was an enthusiastic supporter of all things Wolfpack. He had a long and successful career in sales and marketing working for The Chemstrand Corp. (Pensacola, FL); Monsanto Co. (Greenville, SC / New York, NY), and Olin/Ecusta Corp. (Brevard, NC) before retiring in 1992. For the next decade, he owned and operated Archibald's Delicatessen in Holden Beach with his wife and son and loved greeting customers as “the real Archibald.”
Archie was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Brevard for more than 50 years and was noted for his humor, his attention to detail, and his sound judgment to all that knew him.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held Thursday, July 8, at 10:30 AM at First United Methodist Church in Brevard. The family will receive guests for half an hour prior to the service in the church parlor.
