Obituary for James Pringle Macfie

James Pringle Macfie, 70, of Little River, passed away peacefully at his home on June 2, 2021, surrounded by his family.

He was born July 17, 1950 in Brevard to the late Spencer and Anita Galloway. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; John A. Macfie and Tom C. Macfie; a nephew, Mitchell M. Macfie; and a brother-in-law, Don Hall.

A native and lifelong resident of Transylvania County, he graduated from Brevard High School in 1968 and married Gail Hall on July 31, 1976. He attended Western Carolina University before beginning his career as a stonemason in 1975. As a stonemason and successful business owner, Jim completed many projects in WNC and trained many stonemasons, many of which still practice in the trade. He was passionate about his work, had a keen eye for detail, and cared deeply for his employees.

He was a member of Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian Church his entire life where he served as a deacon and a sound engineer. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, and he would always assist anyone in need. He loved to riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles, working in his gardens, attending concerts, going to movies, eating good food, and just relaxing on the porch with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Gail Macfie; daughters, Amber Causby and husband John of Little River; and Jamie Macfie of Little River; four grandsons; Peyton, Asher, Rylan and Karter; a brother, Spencer Macfie of Charlotte; sisters-in-law Cathy Hutchins Macfie of Daytona, Fla. and Teresa Hall of Pisgah Forest; brother-in-law Gregg Hall and wife Carol; nephews, Cody Macfie and wife Carolyn of Asheville and Chad Macfie and wife Letitia of Daytona Beach, Fla., Ethan Hall, and Caleb Hall and wife Deana; and niece, Delia McCall and husband Tracy; and Katherine Medford, who was a motherly figure to Jim for many years.

A memorial service will be held at Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 1 PM with the Reverend Keith Thompson officiating. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brevard Davidson River preschool.
