Obituary for James Henry Whitlock Jr.

Brevard – James Henry Whitlock, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 17, 2022.

He was born in Easley, SC on February 1, 1938 to the late James Henry Whitlock, Sr. and Geneva Johnson Whitlock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by by one brother, Terry Lane Whitlock and one grandson, James Tyler Warren.

Jim was among the first group of hirees at Dupont in Brevard. While at Dupont, he was an industrial mechanic for 34 years until his retirement in 1992.

He loved serving in his church through various ministries including disaster relief, prison ministry and church building. He served as a deacon for many years. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church in Ladson, SC.

Jim’s favorite pastimes included bear and wild boar hunting at The Blue Boar Lodge in Robbinsville, NC and with local Transylvania County hunters. He enjoyed hiking and woodworking in his shop at home. Above all, Jim loved the Lord and was a true family man, always putting them first.


Survivors include his loving wife of 65.5 years, Barbara Smith Whitlock, two daughters, Gayla Whitlock Phillips(Kelvin) and Robbie Whitlock Warren (Jerry) all of Brevard, one son, James Henry Whitlock III(Rita) of Galax, VA, four grandchildren, Jillian Phillips Owen(Matthew) of Brevard, Ian Phillips(Alicia) of Brevard, Natalie Warren Pace (Adam) of Taylors, SC, James Henry Whitlock IV (Chelsey) of Raleigh, NC, five great grandchildren, Claire, Cooper and Carson Owen, JJ and Tyler Pace, one sister, Sandra Whitlock Howell(Jimmie) of Brevard and many nieces and nephews.


The Whitlock family would like to express their gratitude to hospice for the excellent care given by Tenille, Amanda, Callie, Kayla and Denise and his private night nurses, Crystal and Debra.

Funeral services will be held 2pm, Friday, July 22, 2022 at Moody Connolly Funeral Home with the Revs. Tommy Crocker and Dr. Ricky Lee officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
