Obituary for Janice Faye Huff (Lyke)

Janice Faye Huff, 80, of Brevard, passed away in her home on Tuesday, June 18, 2019.

She was born on June 6, 1939 in Northville, Michigan to Ronald Frank and Mildred “Irene” Lyke.

She attended Bob Jones University and Olivet College, studying business. It was while at BJU that she became pen pals with Charles Robert Huff, who was serving in the Army in Anchorage, Alaska. They were married on July 25, 1959 and would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this year.

Jan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved laughing and making others laugh, often telling stories of her shenanigans. She was an entrepreneur and businesswoman, keeping the books for multiple businesses and opening the Country Store in Brevard with her daughter. She was a lover of dogs and had many family pets in her lifetime. She was a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan, although she did enjoy watching any sport. She was an avid reader, keeping a log of everything she read. While she enjoyed a range of hobbies and activities, her greatest joy was found in spending time with her family and pets. She was a generous and joyful giver, constantly thinking of others.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie Huff of Brevard, NC; two daughters, Charla Huff Kurtz of Arden, NC and Loree Rae Huff of Daytona, FL; son, David Robert Huff and wife Melanie of Brevard, NC; six grandchildren, Joshua Huff, Cody King (Mikayla Heath), Leeanna Huff (John Bradley
Breeden), Lindsey Kurtz Thompson (Connor), Katherine Kurtz, and Kristopher Huff; two great- grandchildren, William Huff and O’rian King; one sister, Beverly Lyke Fisher of Wayland, MI; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog Marley.

Her family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, especially Pearl, and to
Hospice of Transylvania County.

A private family ceremony was held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home.
