Obituary for Jean Marie Manning (LaBonte)

Jean Labonte Powell Manning, 89, died on August 25, 2019 in Brevard, NC.

Born in Soldier Pond, Maine on July 26, 1930, she was the daughter of the late
Josephelle Labonte and Gertrude Daigle Labonte. Jean met her first husband, William
Stanley Powell, in 1950 while they were both working at Landers, Frary and Clark in New Britain, Connecticut.

They were married on November 3, 1951, and made their home in Trumbull,
Connecticut until William’s death in 1979.

Jean met her second husband, David Charles Manning, through mutual friends in their
local bridge club. They were married on December 28, 1980 and celebrated 38 years of
marriage together before her death. After falling in love with the Blue Ridge mountains
Jean and Dave decided to spend their retirement in Brevard, North Carolina.

Jean was an active member of the Brevard community and cherished the many
friendships she formed there. In addition to being an avid hiker and gardener, she was a
member of quilting groups, tennis and golf leagues, and a parishioner at Sacred Heart
Catholic Church.

In addition to her parents and her first husband, Jean was preceded in death by her
eight siblings and her daughter Patricia Jean Powell.

Jean is survived by her son Michael W. Powell and his wife, Susan of Chardon, Ohio;
son-in-law Patrick C. Buchanan, Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia; stepsons Don Manning and
his wife, April of Ramsen, New York and Larry Manning of Brighton, Massachusetts; six
Grandchildren (Carolyn, David, Shane, Jacob, Karissa, and Kayla); and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

The family is grateful to the staff members of College Walk Retirement Community and
Sam’s Home Care for the devoted care they provided to Jean throughout her recent
Illness.
