Ferguson, Jr., one brother Frank A. Peterson and his wife Lois Peterson, brothers in law Dean Madden and Denny Landreth. Her niece Chrissy Garst and nephews, Steve Balding, Smitty Peterson and her great nephews William Edward and O’Brien Gibbs all left this world much too soon as well as, her sweet great great niece Aliana Belle Landreth.

Survivors include her two sons, Charles R. Loftis, Jr. and wife Suzie of Lake Toxaway and James Michael Loftis, Sr. and wife Rosie of Brevard. She was blessed with four grandchildren; Brandy Loftis Moore and husband Rodney, Ava Loftis (Tommy Connell), Michael Loftis and Charlie Turner Loftis as well as, two great granddaughters, Brianna Moore and Addison Moore Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joy of her life.

Also surviving her are her sisters, RoAnn Balding (Arvil), Jeanne Landreth, Donnie Madden, Myra Kay Powell (Gary)., brothers Johnny Peterson and Charlie Peterson (Beverly) , she was blessed with many nieces and nephews whom she loved.

Jimmie loved life and lived it fully. She enjoyed cooking, especially Pound cakes and big family dinners for those she loved. Gardening of flowers and vegetables gave her many hours of enjoyment and accomplishment. She loved to shop and always had a knack for choosing bright, colorful clothes and shoes as well as jewelry. She dressed to the “Nines” and always looked beautiful. It was from her love of clothes, jewelry and fashion that she was affectionately nicknamed “Foxy”. She played varsity basketball in high school and loved the North Carolina Tarheels. She loved watching every game on TV. When possible, she attended the games in Chapel Hill and enjoyed cheering for her beloved Tarheels. She had many friends and lots of family and extended family that enjoyed doing life with her.

Jimmie was a woman of strong faith and was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Brevard NC. She would read her bible every night. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 91 which begins with “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Even near to the end of her life, she would quote this scripture. She enjoyed playing the old hymns on her organ, amazing her family with more of her many talents.

Jimmie was a retired Registered Nurse. She graduated from Rutherford Hospital School of Nursing in 1953 and started her nursing career in Brevard, NC at the old Transylvania Community Hospital as an OR nurse. She was quickly promoted to Director of Nursing. When the new hospital was built in its current location, she helped set up the Emergency Department and became the director of the ED. From this point on, she worked in many positions at the hospital to include the Procedure Room and Home Care. She worked as an Industrial Nurse at Dupont and briefly at Ecusta Corp as Plant Nurse. She worked for several physicians in Brevard including one of her favorites, Dr. Ray Dunkelberg. She was inspirational for many young folks she worked with; influencing several of them to pursue careers in the medical field. She liked to tell folks that she retired from nursing after 58 years.

She was certainly an amazing mother, sister, grandmother, mother in law, sister in law and friend. She was truly a Foxy lady and will be missed by all of those who loved her. “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4: 7

I have many fond memories of Jimmie from working with her at Transylvania Community Hospital in the "good ole days". She was always energetic, friendly and hard working and she loved mentoring to new nurses. She called me Mac.
I know you will miss her in countless ways and countless times.
