Obituary for Joan Lee Rundell (Henry)

Joan Rundell, 76, of Brevard, formerly of Miami Springs, Florida, passed away on Jan. 13, 2023, after a brief illness.
Born in Cincinnati on Sept. 17, 1946, to her parents, Clinton and Marjorie Henry (also formerly of Brevard), she moved to Miami with them, graduating from Coral Gables High School in 1964. In 1967, she began working as a flight attendant for United Airlines.
Joan met her late husband Dave, a maintenance staff associate for Pan Am Airlines, and they married in 1968. They had their only son, Wayne, and lived in Miami Springs, a city known to house airline employees, until 2014, when they moved, along with Wayne, his wife Bethany and their two sons, to Brevard. Joan continued working as a flight attendant for United, commuting to Chicago a few times a month to work flights to China until 2020, when she retired during the pandemic.
Joan and Dave enjoyed traveling and were avid cruisers, a passion they instilled in their oldest grandson Bradley, whom they would take on yearly cruises. Known as “Nana” to Bradley and her other grandson Tyler, she often attended track and cross country meets and soccer, baseball and basketball games to cheer them on. Selfless, she always found ways to put smiles on the faces of those she knew, offering gifts and keeping in touch with friends and loved ones near and abroad.
Joan is survived by Wayne (Bethany), her grandsons and her beloved dog Buddy. She is preceded in death by Dave, her mother and her father.
The family will hold a private graveside service at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in her memory be made to Calvary Baptist Church of Brevard, 133 Osborne Road, Brevard, or online at CalvaryBrevard.com or to Jameson’s Joy at JamesonsJoy.org.
