Obituary for Joan Ruth Stecker (Allan)

Joan Ruth Stecker, 93, of Pisgah forest, passed away July 24, 2020, in her home with her family at her side after a long illness. She was the daughter of, Newlin and Ida Mae Allan, born March 19, 1927 in Manitowoc WI. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years Joseph Stecker, 3 children: Bob McAlpin, Richard McAlpin and Jodie Knox. Five Grandchildren: Shane, Collin, Heather, and Russell Knox, Angie Weiman, and 11 great grandchildren: Adam, Brittany, Charlotte, Benjamin Knox; Cameron McCathern; Aubrie, Lia, Kai Borovina; Darrian, Mantha, Mason Weiman and Joan’s brother Lloyd Allan. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Jeannie Logan, and grandson Eric McAlpin.
She raised her children in Corning, IA. She enjoyed the small town life where she received her pilot’s license, scuba diving certificate and she volunteered as secretary at the Presbyterian Church. She worked as an administrative assistant for many years in California. She enjoyed her hobbies of artwork, videos, sewing, cooking. She loved family gatherings when Joseph and herself hosted the annual cookie decorating day on Christmas and Halloween which left the family with many fond memories.
She was a member of P.E.O., and prior to her illness actively participated in this groups activities. Any donations in her memory please give to the P.E.O.’s Teddy Soule Scholarship which benefits local women in their pursuit of their educational goal. A celebration of her life will be planned along with the burial of her ashes next to her mother and sister at the Paul Lange Arboretum in Delevan, WI.
