Obituary for Joe Alonzo Petit

Joe Alonzo Petit, 86, of Rosman, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday June 6, 2022.

A native of Transylvania County, he is the son of the late Otto and Ida Petit of Rosman. In addition to his parents, he is proceeded in death by his brothers, Charles Petit, Leo Petit, Frank Petit and his sisters Reba Powell and Polly Galloway.

He attended school in Rosman before joining the Marine Corp in 1954. He served honorably for 8 years, during which he was stationed in Korea and Hawaii. He married his loving wife Ann Bryson Petit September 6, 1959. They settled in Rosman to raise their two sons Michael and Tim. He worked briefly for the Corp of Engineers before going to work at the Ecusta Corporation. He worked there for 32 years before retiring. He was also a member of Dunn’s Rock Masonic Lodge #267 and a member of Zion Baptist Church.

After retirement, he spent his time spoiling his three grandchildren, Erica, Cody and Tyler, who lovingly referred to him as “Gran”. He also enjoyed hunting, planting a garden, and helping his son Tim with his HVAC business. He was especially fond of his three great-granddaughters, Alyvia, Ansley and Adalyn, who kept him smiling with all their silly antics. Gran was happiest when his family was all together eating dinner at the family home, sharing stories and laughing.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ann Petit of Rosman; his sister Bonnie Aiken of Rosman; his sons Michael Petit and wife Pam of Rosman, and Tim Petit and wife Sylvia of Rosman; his grandchildren Erica Petit Shelton and husband Jason of Lake Toxaway, Cody Petit of Rosman, and Tyler Petit of Rosman; and his great-granddaughters Alyvia, Ansley and Adalyn Shelton of Lake Toxaway. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Moody Connolly Funeral Home in Brevard on Monday June 20th, 2022. Visitation will be from 2-3pm. Services will be conducted by Pastor Brech Landreth of Amazing Grace Baptist Church. Military honors will proceed the services. The family invites guests for a reception after the service at Amazing Grace Baptist Church: 132 Otto Alexander Rd, Brevard, NC 28712.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Zion Baptist Church of Rosman or Four Seasons Hospice Care of Hendersonville.
