Obituary for Joyce Noreen Poor (Brown)

Joyce Brown Poor, 87, a native of Transylvania County, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2019.
She had a life well lived and a life that mattered.
Mrs. Poor was the daughter of the late Herman Holbert and Essie Metcalf Brown. She was also proceeded in death by her brother Freeman Brown and a sister Lucille Brown Holden.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, George W. Poor of the home; her sister, Sara Brown Bryson of Pisgah Forest; two children, Greg Poor of Johnson City, TN and Cindy P. Miller of Pisgah Forest; four grandchildren whom she cherished, Avery and wife Brittney Poor of Nashville, TN, Noah and wife Natalia Poor, of Greenville, SC, Alex Miller of Pisgah Forest, Bailey Poor of Knoxville, TN and a great-grandson, Patton Poor of Nashville, TN, along with many nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart.
After graduating from BHS in 1950, Joyce began work as a bookkeeper at Plemmons Wholesale Company. She later retired from Ecusta in 1993 after 26 years, where she was highly respected. She was a selfless woman who valued her family. Mrs. Poor enjoyed being outdoors in the sunshine, her flowers and working her land. She was well known for feeding others. There was always room at her dinner table, even if it included her own plate.
She began working with the youth at a very young age at Turkey Creek Baptist Church. She also played an instrumental part of leading the youth at the Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian Church for many years.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 1, 2019 from 2:00 PM-3:00 PM in the Moody Connolly Funeral Home Chapel.
