Obituary for Joyce Elaine Weaver (Goering)

Brevard - Joyce Elaine Weaver, 89, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, peacefully at her home. Her 90th birthday would have been September 1, 2022.
A native of Newton, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Joseph Goering and Vera Viola Willis Goering.
Joyce married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Stanley Bocock, a graduate of the United States Naval Academy. They had two daughters, Robin and Cindy. Upon his death, Joyce completed her degree from Kansas State University. Her lifetime passion was teaching. Her first teaching experience was in Manhattan,Kansas with kindergarten and first grade. She taught for ten years until her sister, Greta Wolfe, introduced her to a widower, Lt. Col. Robert Newton Weaver. He had two children, Chuck and Becky. After a whirlwind romance through letters during his tour in Vietnam, they were married July 10, 1968. To complete their “Yours, Mine and Ours” family, a daughter Carrie was born.
In August of 1972, Joyce founded a preschool at their church. Starting with one three year old class, it now serves 108 students in 7 classes. Riviera Day School is celebrating 50 years of educating children this year. Moving to North Carolina in 1975, Bob and Joyce fulfilled their lifelong dream of building a house in the mountains with their own hands. Burnsville became their new home. Later on, Joyce served the Presbytery of Western North Carolina as the Associate for Covenants, Calls and Vacancies. Retirement for Joyce and Bob brought relocation to College Walk in Brevard, North Carolina. She was a member of Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church. She was a 50+ year member of PEO, a philanthropic educational organization, supporting higher education for women.
Joyce is survived by her sister, Greta Wolfe; a son, Charles Robert Weaver (Jana) of Dover, FL; daughters Robin Elliott (Edward) of St. Petersburg, FL, Cindy Orsillo (Michael) of Mocksville, NC, Becky South (Mark) of Dade City, FL, and Carrie Weaver Stock (Michael) of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren Matthew (Jayce) and Joshua (Mandy) Elliott, John (Brandy), Kenny (Casey) and David (Nani) Orsillo, Chad (Nicole) Weaver, and Haley Stock; great grandchildren Luke, Brad, Sam, Jesse, Hope, Elle, Abi, Scarlett, Josie, and John Michael.
A Celebration of Life service for Joyce will be held 2pm, Saturday, September 3, 2022 at the Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Keith Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
